- Shagya – Western
I’ve found that as a “Breed” the Shagya is a versatile riding and/or driving horse who tends to have a wonderful character, is willing and level headed, and has the gaits and the conformation required for modern day performance horses. Shagyas do well in dressage, jumping, eventing, driving, western sports, endurance riding and competitive trail riding.

Often the same horse (including stallions) is used for a variety of sports and for pleasure riding. They are suitable for adult riders as well as children – check out my video from Radautz of a top young rider competing on his aged purebred Shagya Arabian stallion. This stallion helped three children become European Jumping Champions over the course of his career and is still going strong at about 20 years of age.
