Holstein breeders of Germany took notice recently when for the first time the winner of “Best Halbblutstute” was the filly foal WELTWITSCHIA sired by Bazar Sh.A. out of the mare Lydia III v. lord Calidos – Leuthen II, as judged by Dr. Klaus Gumpert, Grevenkop. The judges’ comments applauded the use of Shagya blood in Holstein breeding, commenting that this filly should encourage breeders to consider the use of Shagya blood in their breeding programs!
This success was followed a few weeks later by the VZAP approval of her brother Shakiro (Bazar x Shayhla v. Efu) 2006, SHA. It is appropriate to note that yet another stallion with Shagya influence was approved by VZAP: the Anglo-Arabian stallion Haskar Del Chapulin (Askar AA/Pedra (VA) v. Abaco II) 2005, AA. His sire Askar AA (now deceased) was approved for trakehner breeding in Germany and has Dahoman Shagya bloodlines.
Two Shagya Arabians competed for Spain at the Kentucky Cup – Endurance – FEI CEI ** 120 KM event finishing in 4th place was the Shagya gelding Gazal XVIII-3 with rider Jordi Arboix) and in 7th place was the mare Sahara with rider Maria Mercedes Alverez Ponton. Maria Alverez Ponton rode the Shagya mare Luna de Crouz to win the 160 km Raid Casarubios del Monte CEI earlier this year.
